More Cooking Press Releases To Release Guide To Ranks And Medals

Houston, TX (PRWEB) April 11, 2014 is set to launch a guide that will help people understand what military ranks and medals mean when they purchase a report, the company announced yesterday.

“We want to make our reports as meaningful as possible for the average consumer,” a spokesman said. “That means we have to find a way to cut through the military jargon and explain the importance of ranks and medals. Otherwise, unscrupulous people could try to con them by making them seem like they mean something they do not.”

The guide will explain the meanings of ranks and medals for the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and reserve units, he said.

“Each branch of service has their own rank and medal system,” he said. “What may mean one thing to one branch of service often means something completely different for another branch. Therefore, we need to break down our guide into different branches of service.” will publish the guide in the members’ area of their site, through their social marketing channels, and on their blog, he said.

“The end goal here is to let everyone understand what the significance of ranks and medals actually are,” he said. “It’s part of our overall goal of letting people have as much information as possible at their disposal when evaluating a former service member.”

There will be no additional cost for the guide, he said.

Leading photojournalist Ed Kashi explores the unresolved dreams of Azerbaijani IDPs

London, UK (PRWEB UK) 10 April 2014

New York-based Ed Kashi is one of the world’s leading photojournalists, having worked for the ‘National Geographic’, ‘Newsweek’, ‘Time’ and ‘The New York Times’. Co-founder of the VII Photo Agency, he has spent his life documenting areas of the world impacted by human tragedies. Commissioned by The European Azerbaijan Society (TEAS), Ed has now pointed his lens towards a handful of the approximately one million Azerbaijani internally displaced persons (IDPs) and refugees who are the ongoing casualties of the Armenian–Azerbaijani conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh.

Charting their everyday lives in four displacement camps across Azerbaijan, the startling results are now on display at the gallery@oxo – located in London’s iconic Oxo Tower on the South Bank. The ‘Unresolved Dreams’ exhibition, organised by TEAS, runs from 10–13 April. On 9 April, around 150 people, including fellow photographers, journalists and diplomats, attended the opening.

Tale Heydarov, Chairman, TEAS, commented: “I am seeing the photographs taken by Ed Kashi, the world-famous photojournalist and film-maker, for the first time. In recent years, very few journalists have visited the IDP and refugee camps across Azerbaijan. During the early 1990s, when the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict was still ‘hot’, there was some coverage, but it became sidelined to a certain extent, as there were so many new conflicts competing for media attention. The pictures show the difficult lives of the IDPs and refugees, as they cook, eat, study and try to make the best of their lives. It is important for people not to forget the IDPs and refugees who are living under these challenging conditions, brought about by the policies of neighbouring Armenia.

“The aim is to demonstrate that this conflict remains unresolved. During the past decade, around £3.3bn has been spent on improving the lives of the IDPs and refugees by constructing better houses and infrastructure. When they were originally forced from their homes, they lived in tents, old railway trucks and other substandard accommodation, surviving temperatures ranging from –10 to 40°C.

“Whenever journalists speak to the Azerbaijani IDPs and refugees, they acknowledge the improvements to their lives, but it remains that living in camps can never equate to life in their own homes. More than 20 years have passed, and many of the original IDPs and refugees have passed away without being able to return. A new generation has been born in the camps, but they do not have the same educational opportunities or aspirations of other children. Journalists and photographers, such as Ed Kashi, serve to raise their voice in the west.

“Ethnic cleansing is occurring in many parts of the world, most notably in Syria. In Azerbaijan, we do not make a difference between nationalities. All humans are the same and deserve respect. TEAS is attempting to provide justice to these people. Hopefully Azerbaijanis and Armenians can live in peace one day, and the IDPs and refugees can return home. When they do, Ed Kashi will be invited to photograph their return.”

Ed Kashi recalled: “I aimed to bring the situation down to the human level. I had not previously visited Azerbaijan before June 2013, and was initially amazed by the development of Baku. I then travelled to western Azerbaijan to see the IDP and refugee camps, which was a stark contrast. I met elderly people who were suffering with arthritis due to damp conditions, and they all expressed a wish to return home. I have never been to Nagorno-Karabakh, but I repeatedly heard that it’s beautiful.

“Generations of children are being born in the camps. They are innocent to this compromised, limbo position, and I note the work of the Azerbaijani government to improve living conditions. By pure chance, we saw young school-leavers celebrating their graduation. They did not behave like IDPs and refugees. They had hope for their future, and we all look forward to their future in their rightful homeland.”

Visit Modern Architecture Marvels in Silicon Valley This Weekend

Silicon Valley, CA (PRWEB) April 10, 2014

The third annual Silicon Valley Modern Home Tour takes place this weekend. During the self-guided driving tour, five architecturally progressive and contemporary homes that exemplify modern living in the Silicon Valley area will be open to visitors. Tourgoers have the rare opportunity to see the inside-and-out of these amazing private homes and meet the architects and homeowners.

Ingrid Spencer, former managing editor for Architectural Record Magazine, has selected and curated five awe-inspiring homes for the 2014 Silicon Valley Modern Home Tour.

(1) An amazing home in Menlo Park, designed by local architect Dan Spiegel of Spiegel Aihara Workshop, that re-appropriates the traditional forms of the California ranch house and farm tower as tools of environmental performance and social interaction.

(2) A wonderful display of modern architecture by WA Design, located in Saratoga at the foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains, that comprises a set of smaller ‘buildings’ interconnected by glassed-in walks and vaulted roof structures.

(3) A Palo Alto Eichler home, originally built in 1950 and part of the National Register listed Green Gables neighborhood, which was expanded and completely remodeled in 2012 by Design for Living.

(4) An early Mid-Century Modern house in Palo Alto that has bookend type additions front and back that completely transform the character of the house, while complementing the original design – recently renovated and updated by M110 Architecture.

(5) A second M110 Architecture renovation in Palo Alto, this original Eichler home demonstrates how flexible the original post and beam construction method can be, as this house has been re-purposed throughout without adding any floor area.

This year’s Silicon Valley Modern Home Tour will be held in conjunction with the Silicon Valley Contemporary Fine Art Fair. Created as a cooperative event in between premier home tour organizer, Modern Home Tours, and the Hamptons Expo Group, producers of the nation’s leading contemporary art fairs, the combination home tour and art fair ticket will highlight the complementary intersection of contemporary art and modern design.

Participating stops on the 2014 Silicon Valley Modern Home Tour will be open for viewing from 11:00 am – 4:00 pm on Saturday, April 12th, in and around Silicon Valley. The final stop of the home tour will be Silicon Valley Contemporary’s VIP Lounge featuring a wine and small bites reception, including a “Meet & Greet” with featured Tour architects. The tickets to attend the 2014 Silicon Valley Modern Home Tour on Saturday include admission to the Silicon Valley Contemporary Art Fair throughout the weekend.

Vision Literacy, a Santa Clara County-based nonprofit focused on providing comprehensive adult and family literacy education services, has been named as the 2014 Silicon Valley Modern Home Tour partner.

National Museum of the Pacific War to Receive Doolittle Raiders Book with 25 Raiders Signatures on April 16th

Fredericksburg, Texas (PRWEB) April 07, 2014

On April 16th at 10:00 a.m. in the Nimitz Museum Grand Ballroom, the National Museum of the Pacific War will receive a book donation from a private individual, the book “Doolittle’s Tokyo Raiders” by Carroll V. Glines. What makes this such an important donation is that the book holds 25 signatures from Doolittle Raiders. Colonel Dick Cole who was Lt. Colonel James Doolittle co-pilot on that famous mission and last surviving member of Crew 1 will be there to resign the book before it is handed over to the museum. This event is open to the public and all are encouraged to attend.

The book is being donated by Nick DeBerardinis from Houston whose father Lt. Col. Nicolas “Mike” DeBerardinis USAF (Ret.) originally got the signatures of the Raiders in the book. “He intimated to me, the importance that service to our country was the most valuable gift we are given and though I was an ‘in-betweener,’ I should do whatever I could to serve. The book became a reminder to me of that talk; from a father to a son, a patriot to a benefactor, a contributor to a grateful nation,” said Nick when asked why the book held such importance to him.

Nick DeBerardinis chose the National Museum of the Pacific War as the recipient of the book not only because of the Doolittle exhibit displayed in the museum and the museums mission to preserve the history of WWII in the Pacific, but because of the proximity. “With such star power of America’s greatest test for freedom emanating in such close proximity (McArthur in San Antonio, and Nimitz in Fredericksburg) it seemed an honorable location”, Nick.

The Doolittle Raid (Tokyo Raid) was the first air raid to strike the Japanese home island. Not only was it retaliation for the attack on Pearl Harbor but it also was a morale boost for the American people. It also showed that Japan itself was vulnerable. When asked about the importance of the raid Lt. Col. Dick Cole said, “To many of us it was just the first mission of the war, we didn’t think about it”. Nick said it was Lt. Col. Cole’s humility that inspired him most to ensure that the Raiders got recognition for what they had done for the American people.

An honor guard from the Texas Military Institute Corps of Cadets of TMI – The Episcopal School of Texas in San Antonio will be serving as Honor Guard and ushers for the program. The program will include remarks from Nick DeBerardinis, Lt. Col. Dick Cole, and a museum representative. Lt. Col. Cole will re-sign the book before it is handed over to the museum. This program is open to the public. For more information please contact Director of Public Relations Brandon Vinyard at 830-997-8600 ext. 205.

The National Museum of the Pacific War is a Texas Historical Commission property supported, operated, and managed by the Admiral Nimitz Foundation.
